Our resistance, dislike and fear of appearing pushy or salesy means we love the idea that someone else could and should spread the word about us and our practice!
In yesterday’s T for Thoughts, I mentioned that some mindsets hold you back in your dream to be a full time practitioner. That’s one of them.
But Siobhan I hear you say, you’ve tried advertising, you’ve done health shows for days on end, AND you’ve given talks; and you’re still not busy. That’s OK, I understand. I’ve done all that too. It’s likely that like me, you thought you were doing all those marketing activities to get more clients. Right? Well, let me introduce you to a new way of thinking and this system.
I want you to think about this.
What if, all you were interested in was finding out who MIGHT be interested in what you do. What if when you did any marketing you weren’t looking for the sale or the booked appointment?
You see, more and more people are very interested in holistic health. They are looking for the very solutions you offer. But they don’t know you, they don’t understand what you do. You must admit, it can be pretty confusing, and a leap of faith sometimes, to the newbie because we all look the same!
You already know that you have to educate your clients about your therapy. You already know that you need more than a business card, an advert or a flyer to explain what it is you do. There just isn’t enough space on any of those.
But even then if you’ve sent your brochure, given a talk etc, it can seem odd because while so many people need your help some are resistant to booking an appointment.
You see, what they need is time.
And with today’s system, that’s what you can give them. You’re not after the person who says yes immediately, or the person who books but only commits to one session.
You want to help those who are as committed to them as you are. You want to work with people who get what you do and in turn you can help turn their health and life around.
You must give prospective clients time, time for you to share your information & education by helping them understand the value you offer.
The only way I know how to do this in a non salesy, gentle and simple way that suits holistic practitioners in so many ways is have a system of follow up. A system that is effective, easy and educates the client over time, so that they will call you when the time is right for them.
Every practitioner’s dream is to have a steady stream of people calling for an appointment. To have a busy calendar, even a waiting list. When this happens you really can believe, really know in your heart of hearts that there is value in what you do, that you are making a difference in the world, and you can start to own and enjoy the freedom and lifestyle you dream of.
